Intelligent Optimization for the Minimum Labelling Spanning Tree Problem

چکیده
Given a connected, undirected graph whose edges are labelled (or coloured), the minimum labelling spanning tree (MLST) problem seeks a spanning tree whose edges have the smallest number of distinct labels (or colours). In recent work, the MLST problem has been shown to be NP-hard and some effective heuristics have been proposed and analysed. In this paper we present preliminary results of a currently ongoing project regarding the implementation of an intelligent optimization algorithm to solve the MLST problem. This algorithm is obtained by the basic Variable Neighbourhood Search heuristic with the integration of other complements from machine learning, statistics and experimental algorithmics, in order to produce high-quality performance and to completely automate the resulting optimization strategy.

متن کاملA Metaheuristic Algorithm for the Minimum Routing Cost Spanning Tree Problem
The routing cost of a spanning tree in a weighted and connected graph is defined as the total length of paths between all pairs of vertices. The objective of the minimum routing cost spanning tree problem is to find a spanning tree such that its routing cost is minimum. This is an NP-Hard problem that we present a GRASP with path-relinking metaheuristic algorithm for it. GRASP is a multi-start ...
متن کاملOPTIMIZATION OF TREE-STRUCTURED GAS DISTRIBUTION NETWORK USING ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION: A CASE STUDY
An Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is proposed for optimal tree-structured natural gas distribution network. Design of pipelines, facilities, and equipment systems are necessary tasks to configure an optimal natural gas network. A mixed integer programming model is formulated to minimize the total cost in the network. The aim is to optimize pipe diameter sizes so that the location-alloc...
متن کاملA Distributed Parallel Algorithm for Minimum Spanning Tree Problem
In this paper we present and evaluate a parallel algorithm for solving a minimum spanning tree (MST) problem for supercomputers with distributed memory. The algorithm relies on the relaxation of the message processing order requirement for one specific message type compared to the original GHS (Gallager, Humblet, Spira) algorithm. Our algorithm adopts hashing and message compression optimizatio...
متن کاملOn the Minimum Labelling Spanning bi-Connected Subgraph problem
We introduce the minimum labelling spanning bi-connected subgraph problem (MLSBP) replacing connectivity by bi-connectivity in the well known minimum labelling spanning tree problem (MLSTP). A graph is bi-connected if, for every two vertices, there are, at least, two vertex-disjoint paths joining them. The problem consists in finding the spanning bi-connected subgraph or block with minimum set ...
